Real Madrid are currently at the top of the La Liga table and have a decent chance to go all the way and beat Barca’s domination in the domestic titles in the last two season.

They are also in with a chance at the European level, drawn with Bayern Munich in the quarter final of the Champions League and Zinedine Zidane will be happy with his team’s progress in the last couple of months.

Though most of the players at the Bernabeu have been in decent form this season, one player that is constantly attracting criticism recently is star striker Karim Benzema.

The French international is currently one of the most prolific goal scorers in Europe but the Real Madrid fans, as demanding as they are, have asked for him to be benched for lack of performances in recent games.

Benzema has 16 goals and seven assists in all competitions this season and has yet again give the club some crucial goals and points to save their season.

But the Real Madrid fans expect a lot more from him, playing alongside the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale.

However, Benzema has recently joined an elite club of strikers at the Bernabeu.

The French international, who is currently the ninth top goal scorer for the Spanish outfit in its history in the La Liga, has not scored a single penalty in the league in his time at the Bernabeu.

Having scored his 119th La Liga goal for Real Madrid in a recent victory, Benzema equaled the record of one Amancio Amaro, one of the biggest legends of the game.

The Frenchman has actually done better, having not scored a single penalty to reach the figure.

Benzema has never stepped up to take a spot-kick in the La Liga and his only penalty for the Spanish outfit came on November 10, 2011 against Murcia in a 4-1 Copa del Rey victory.

In fact, it is a record not achieved even by the best in the game.

Not counting penalties, Benzema, who will remain on 119 goals will be level with club legend Emilio Butragueno, which is a great feat.

The former Lyon man has scored just six penalties in his career and seems to find a way to provide Real with the important goals from open play and set pieces, proving his importance to the club.
