Klopp Accepts Challenge, Makes Shocking Comment On Rivalry With Mourinho, Wenger
The German arrived on Merseyside last October as he replaced Brendan Rodgers at the helm and he was joined in England by Pep Guardiola as well as Antonio Conte in the summer.
That trio along with likes of Jose Mourinho, Mauricio Pochettino and Arsene Wenger means the top flight of English football is home to some of the best tacticians in world football and Klopp says he loves to pit his wits against them.
“If you would have told me 10 years ago that you would say all of these names and one of the names would have been Jurgen Klopp I would have said ‘crazy guy’,” he told Sky Sports.
“No chance, of course not. Not with my player legend, starting with a second division club in Germany. That’s not really likely.
“First of all I maybe enjoy it most of all of them because I really love to battle with the best. They are the best, probably and they are all around.
“A lot of them are in the north of England, so pretty close. That’s cool.”
Klopp will be targeting maximum points over the festive period as his side welcome Stoke City and Manchester City to Anfield before the end of 2016 then begin the New Year with an away trip to Sunderland.
With the Blues currently looking unstoppable at the top of the table, there is an added importance on the likes of Liverpool to keep up the pressure in the hope that Conte’s side do drop points.
Liverpool lie second in the table, only six points behind the leaders, Chelsea, who visit Anfield at the end of January, and are on a high after a thrilling stoppage-time derby win at Everton last week. However, their fitness and resources will be tested by three league games in seven days over the festive period.
The Liverpool manager, who admits it is unlikely Philippe Coutinho will recover from an ankle ligament injury in time to face City on Saturday, insists his squad can cope with the demands and emerge from the schedule with their Premier League credentials enhanced.
Klopp expressed bewilderment at Liverpool’s fixture schedule when it was first announced the City game had been moved to a 5.30pm kick-off for broadcasting purposes.
The club’s request to delay the Sunderland kick-off was rejected by the Premier League and Klopp insists he has come to accept the decision, albeit reluctantly.
