Roman Abramovich is hoping that Chelsea can bring Diego Simeone as their coach this summer as Atletico Madrid were hit with a transfer ban and the Russian owner has made Diego his number 1 target to replace Guus Hiddink at the end of the season.
The transfer ban which was imposed both on Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid aids Chelsea’s intention to bring him to Stamford Bridge and Diego might easily come out of Atletico.
It is believed that Diego would certainly prefer a premier league move this summer if the transfer ban remains for the next two seasons.
Both the Madrid teams were banned for the next two transfer windows after breaching the rules on international transfer of players and registration of players under the age of 18.
The Russian is depending on this ban as a positive sign for the Blues, since Simeone can be tempted to join Chelsea since he cannot buy any players in Madrid.
Chelsea have also been linked with other managers like Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola and also Chile boss Jorge Sampaoli.
It is believed that Guardiola will certainly move to the Premier league but Manchester City are still the favourites to get the Spaniard at Etihad.
However, Chelsea also has set their eyes on Antoine Griezmann and it is highly doubtful whether Atletico Madrid would give up their star forward given the situation they are in, cause due to the transfer ban.
Atletico Madrid are reportedly trying to extend Antoine’s contract till 2020 to ward off any attempts by Chelsea to sign him.
Diego Simeone has guided Atletico to a La Liga title,Champions league final, the Europa League Cup, Uefa Super Cup, Copa del Rey and Spanish Super Cup since 2011.
Blues fans would love to see Diego at Stamford Bridge who would bring the required dynamism, which is definitely required since Jose Mourinho was sacked.
Hiddink is not a permanent solution, even though he is popular among the fans, and has managed to rebuild Chelsea’s campaign with no losses until now.
It is to be seen who will finally land up at Stamford Bridge and if the transfer ban really proves to be a boon for Chelsea, given that even Manchester United have contacted Diego Simeone for the manager’s role.
