Why should Arsenal cash in on out of favour Karim Benzema?
A new angle has been added to the Karim Benzema, Arsenal transfer saga as Spanish media El confidential report that the French striker might move out of the club soon to join Premier League giants Arsenal this summer.
A week back it was reported that Karim Benzema is slowly becoming out of favour under the newly appointed boss Rafa Benitez and might as well act as a second fiddle striker for the side this season. This stimulated the transfer rumours that Benzema may head to Premier League. Arsenal in that case would favourites to rope in the striker.
On Saturday, 18th July, Real Madrid played their first pre-season game against AS Roma which they lost on penalties. The Los Blancos played a 4-2-3-1 formation where Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale inter changed as number 9. Benitez even clarified that it was just an experiment to see if the combination worked.
This clearly points out that Karim Benzema will be a bench warmer at Real Madrid this season as Benitez prefers Bale or Ronaldo in the attacking role over the Frenchman.
Arsene Wenger in this situation would love to cash in and sign Karim Benzema to solve his squad’s problem regarding striker. Arsenal have a well balanced team with an array quality players in the midfield and defense. They bought Petr Cech from Chelsea this summer which enriched the squad even more. The only thing lacking in their squad is the presence of a quality striker who can guarantee them 20 plus goals in a season. Even club legend Thierry Henry had opined a few months back that Olivier Giroud will not give Arsenal titles, the club needs a striker.
Karim Benzema thus, is the perfect answer to Wenger’s problems. The French manager even said that they are keen to get the striker and the team might splash 40 million Euros.
It will be interesting to see if Karim Benzema actually follows Mesut Ozil’s footsteps and join Arsenal this summer from Real Madrid.
