Little difference between Man U, Tottenham: Van Gaal

Manchester, April 20 (IANS) Manchester United are undergoing a difficult time this season, but manager Louis van Gaal has insisted that there is very little difference between his team and title contenders Tottenham Hotspur.

Tottenham have been one of the best teams in the English Premier League (EPL) this season. They are currently second on the league table, five points behind leaders Leicester City and are in with a genuine chance of winning their first top division title since 1961.

Manchester United, on the other hand, have disappointed throughout the season and are lagging far behind in fifth place. They trail Tottenham by 12 points and must rely on other teams dropping points in order to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

The difference in the current form of the two sides was painfully apparent on April 10 when Tottenham blanked Manchester United 3-0 at home. But despite that result, van Gaal believes that his side are not too far behind the north London club.

“We have beaten Tottenham 1-0 (earlier in the season) and until the 70th minute (of the last match) I think we were the better team, but then (there was) a miscommunication. So, I don’t think there is a lot of distance between Tottenham and Manchester United, but the distance is in points,” the former Barcelona manager was quoted as saying by the Independent on Wednesday.

“They have won more, they are scoring more and that’s because they have more creative players,” he added.

The former Netherlands coach however, admitted that United need to add a creative player to the squad.

“It’s always the case. I have said in advance what we need and in, my opinion, I don’t have a senior creative player. Everybody knows that ” van Gaal said.
