Transfer Business With Russian Champions: Liverpool Planning £25m Bid For Dutch Striker
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is reportedly planning to make a £25 million bid for Spartak Moscow star Quincy Promes.
Currently second in the Premier League, the Merseyside outfit is desperate to bolster their squad to keep their promising title challenge on track. The Reds have been one of best attacking sides in the league so far but might struggle to sustain the same momentum in the coming weeks due to the absence of some key players. Sadio Mane has left for Africa Cup of Nations while Daniel Sturridge is still not getting a place in the starting eleven. Furthermore, Danny Ings has already been ruled out of the entire season while Philippe Coutinho is still recovering from the ankle injury. In such a scenario, the Netherlands striker, who has been Sparktak Moscow,’s top scorer in two of the last three seasons, can play an instrumental role in helping the Reds mount their title challenge.
English news outlet The Sun has reported that the former Borussia Dortmund manager has identified the Netherlands international as the perfect replacement for Sadio Mane who has scored nine goals in the Premier League before leaving for national duty.
The 25-year old has proved his mettle as a striker by scoring 37 goals in 73 appearances for the Russian outfit. His goal scoring prowess has helped him to become a regular in the national team.
As expected, the Russian giants are not willing to sell their star man cheaply and are demanding £25million to let the Dutch striker leave. Promes, who agreed a new long-term deal with Spartak in August, is linked with the Reds for quite some time now and the club, it seems, will make a move for the striker in the coming days. Finance should not be a worry for them as they are reportedly looking to offload Mamadou Sakho. Veteran midfielder Lucas Leiva is also linked with a move away from Anfield.
Meanwhile, Jurgen Klopp’s side will look to get back to winning ways after their four-match winning run was ended with a 2-2 draw at Sunderland last week. They will take on Manchester United in their next game on January 15.
