Liverpool and Barcelona interested in signing AS Monaco defender
Premier League side Liverpool FC and La Liga champions FC Barcelona are reportedly interested in signing 25-year-old AS Monaco defender Aymen Abdennour in the summer.
The Tunisia international had joined the French side on loan on the winter transfer deadline day in 2014. After an impressive loan stint with the club he had penned down a four-year deal in the beginning of last season. Abdennour had an outstanding season with Monaco and as a result caught the attention of several top clubs.
The defender’s agent, Abdelkader Jilani recently spoke to Spanish media and claimed that many top European clubs have spoken to him regarding his client’s availability. Jilani was quoted: “They are one of the interested parties, like Milan, Inter, Juventus and Liverpool.
“I have a contract with Monaco and I’m undecided. But I can say that I want to get better every day and I want to play for one of the biggest clubs spoken about soon. I’m ready.”
Treble winners and La Liga giants FC Barcelona have supposedely made a €30 million approach, according to the agent.
The player himself had claimed last week that though he is happy at the French club, he would love to make a move to bigger club if an opportunity comes.
It will be interesting to see if the top European clubs actually splash a massive amount to buy a player who has just performed for one season that also in a less competitive league like Ligue 1.
