Liverpool Beat United, Arsenal, Chelsea And City To Set New EPL Record After Watford Demolition

There’s no wonder Jurgen Klopp is currently seen strolling around Anfield and conducting his media duties at Liverpool with a beaming smile on his face. Life for the German is pretty good right now.

After a maiden campaign in which the 49-year-old reached two cup finals with the Reds and came away trophyless, you couldn’t blame the Liverpool boss for feeling a little bit glum.

But while the Reds were not one of the Premier League’s biggest spenders in the summer, the recruitment Klopp did in the off-season, on top of the work he has done with the players already at the club, is providing the results.

Sadio Mane has continued, for Liverpool, where he left off from with Southampton – following his £34 million summer arrival – while Brazilian stars Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino are helping him to form arguably the best-attacking trio in the Premier League.

Klopp is proving at the top end of the table that money doesn’t mean everything in the Premier League; in an era where eye-watering figures have been spent on bringing the world’s best players to England.

But the Liverpool boss doesn’t have a perfect team as of yet. In fact, the club’s poor defensive record this season could jeopardise their title challenge – although their current position at the summit of the Premier League doesn’t seem to suggest so.

The Reds have already conceded 14 league goals in 11 league games this season – more than any of the other top seven sides in the Premier League. But Klopp’s men are sitting pretty at the top of the league, thanks to their incredible haul of 30 league goals this campaign.

However, realising how significant an attacking threat Klopp’s team doesn’t just stop there. On top of the fact they have four goals more than Chelsea, and five more than Manchester City, Liverpool’s game against Watford set a new record.

Since Opta records began during the 2003-04 season, Liverpool have produced more shots on target (17) than any other team during a Premier League match.

That statistic, though, will not surprise the Anfield faithful, who have been getting more than their money’s worth at Anfield, so far this season.

The thought of coming up against Mane, Coutinho and Firmino must produce fear in opposing defenders. And Liverpool’s leaky defence can only be thankful that they are on their side.

Klopp will undoubtedly be looking to toughen up his defence but, while his free-scoring side continue find the back of the net with regularity, it will remain less of a concern.

Against Watford, the Reds produced five different goal scorers on Sunday afternoon, with Mane, Coutinho, Firmino, Emre Can and Georginio Wijnaldum all making the scoresheet.

Klopp’s certainly not short of goal scorers in his squad and will be hoping his side can produce similar record-breaking figures over the course of the season, while maintaining their position at the top of the Premier League.
