FSG’s Liverpool have once again resumed their love story with Southampton in the off-season even before the start of the transfer window.
After a host of players including Dejan Lovren, Nathaniel Clyne, and Adam Lallana that the club purchased from the Saints in the last two season, Liverpool have once again put a Southampton man on the top of their priority list.
Senegalese winger Sadio Mane, who has had a decent stint at the St Marys in the last couple of years, has been on the radar of Jurgen Klopp for almost a month now and it is now understood that the player and the club have agreed the switch.
According to reports, the Reds have agreed a £30m ($40m) deal for the winger making him the third costliest signing in the club’s history after Andy Carroll (£35m) and Christian Benteke (£32.5m) recently.
Reports from ESPN have also suggested that the 24-year old will be at Melwood on Monday for a medical ahead of his move to the club this summer.
Mane, who scored 11 goals last season was a game changer for Ronald Koeman’s side last season but with the manager also heading to Merseyside at Goodison Park, Liverpool have acted quickly and seem to have now got their hands on the player.
With the lack of natural goal-scoring wingers in the side, Klopp will surely embrace the arrival of a proven attacker in the Premier League as he continues to bolster his squad for the next season.
This is Liverpool’s 4th signing of the summer with Joel Matip, Marko Grujic, and Loris Karius set to join the club after agreeing on deals in the off-season.
But the fans on social media felt that the club may have overpaid yet again for a player from St Marys.
Here is how the Anfield faithful reacted on Twitter to Sadio Mane’s move:
I don't feel excited. Every transfer window we sign bang average players. This has nothing to do with Mane by the way. #LFC

The way I see it #LFC have bought 3 first team players for just 35m

United buying Mkhitaryan for 26 million and Liverpool buying Mane for 30 million. Not a good way to start the day. #LFC

Keeper, CB, winger, CM in already (all key positions). Just a few more additions and departures for it to be a fine transfer window #LFC

The fee aside Mane is a quality signing. Unfortunately transfer fees are ridiculous in today's market due to the TV revenues #Mane #LFC

Sadio Mane is a good player, but £30m seems steep, especially when United are paying less for Mkhitaryan, who is a superior player. #LFC

So do you think Sadio Mane at £30m is a good buy for Liverpool?
