Sakho on Man United: WE ATE THEM 1

In spite of Liverpool’s loss to Manchester United this weekend, French defender Sakho believes that his team were the better side and feels that they were unlucky to end up on the losing side.

The game was nothing like your usual Manchester United – Liverpool match and the fact that Manchester United won the game with their only shot on target proves just that.

Liverpool had 7 shots on target compared to United’s 1 but thanks to David De Gea’s heroics and some bad striking, Liverpool managed to lose the game. Even though United won the game things weren’t looking good for the 20 time Premier League Champions till half-time and Sakho says that the Liverpool team could hear their Manchester United counterparts shout at each other in the dressing room at the half-way mark.

Speaking to Canal+ Liverpool defender, Mamadou Sakho said that “”United were lucky today and they know it, we could hear them shouting in the dressing room at half-time. We ate them.”

Even Manchester United midfielder and Sakho’s France teammate, Morgan Schneiderlin admitted that things got a bit heated up inside the United dressing room:

“When we came into the dressing room after the first half, there was some screaming and shouting, but of course, that is normal because in a derby you cannot lose the battle.”

A draw would have been a fair result for both the teams as neither side looked overwhelming favourites to win the game so Sakho’s claim that Liverpool “ate” United seems to be a bit too much considering United enjoyed more of the possession.

The win helped United climb up to the 5th spot while Liverpool are still stranded at the 9th spot. The way things are going both teams look destined to miss out on the coveted Champions League place.
