Target Set: Liverpool Eyeing Southampton Duo In January 1

Liverpool are once again ready to raid Southampton as they are reportedly planning a £40 million move for Saints duo Virgil van Dijk and Sam McQueen.

English news outlet The Sun has claimed that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is desperate to bolster his leaky defence, that has considered by many as the only problem for the Reds this season,  and is eyeing van Dijk to end his defensive woes. However, the Dutch international would not come cheap as he signed a new six-year contract with the Saints earlier this year. But the report claimed that Klopp is confident of luring the defender to Anfield.

Van Dijk has been one of the most consistent performers for the ST Mary’s outfit and their boss Claude Puel is well aware of the fact that it will be very tough to keep the defender at the club. However, he admitted that the centre-back is going nowhere in recent future and hoped to keep him at the club in future also.

Puel said: “We will see for the future. For now, he is with us and I am enjoying having this player with the squad and I hope for the future also.I enjoy it when all the players can improve like van Dijk because it’s the philosophy of the club. We will see in the future if he can continue this work.”

The Merseyside outfit is also interested in left-back McQueen. Klopp has lost his faith in Alberto Moreno and has played James Milner at that position. Although Milner has done a good job so far at the left flank but Klopp is eyeing a natural left-back. The 21-year old has churned out some impressive performances this term and his situation at the club might open the door for an offer from the Reds. The left-back, whose current contract ends after this season, could be available on a free transfer next summer.
