Liverpool fan Will Hughes who plies his trade for Crystal Palace was seen shushing Manchester United’s supporters on Saturday after his counterpart Casemiro was sent-off in a heated clash. United did pick all three points in a 13th straight win at home in all competitions, but lost Casemiro to a red card. The Brazilian was embroiled in a brawl which broke out between the players from both the sides following a foul on Antony.
Casemiro involvement in the scuffle as so much so that he even grabbed Hughes by his throat and tried to choke the midfielder. While initially he escaped a booking, referee Andre Marriner was then summoned by the VAR to the sidelines to view a replay. And in spite of missing the event in real time, Marriner then flashed a red card at Casemiro after having a look at the replay of the incident.

Hughes makes Liverpool Champions League gesture after Casemiro red card
United were quite comfortably leading 2-0 until the 70th minute when the fight took place. Casemiro, who has a reputation of not missing a chance of getting involved in such confrontations apparently lost his mind and tried to choke Hughes. Players from both the sides and the linesman had to intervene in order to separate those involved in the heated altercation.
Casemiro was then shown a straight red for his antics as some United supporters chose to take their anger out on Hughes, who had played a significant role in the altercation. Instead of ignoring them, the ex-Watford player would do the traditional “shush” gesture and then make the number six with his hands, signifying the number of Champions Leagues Liverpool have won. The Palace midfielder was seen grinning as United players continued to boo Casemiro’s sending off amid chants of “You scouse b*****d”.

The Brazilian’s dismissal gave Palace a chance to get back into the game. Jeffrey Schlupp pulled one back for the visitors, just six minutes after Casemiro was given the marching orders. A Casemiro-less United has often looked vulnerable since his arrival, as was evident in their 3-2 defeat against Arsenal last week. To the relief of Ten Hag, his ten men United side managed to hold on for a 2-1 triumph.
Hughes has been a lifelong Liverpool fan and had confessed it in the past, as he had told The Express:
“I used to go quite a bit to watch them [Liverpool] when I was younger and an academy player but obviously it’s a lot more difficult nowadays. That was Xabi Alonso, Javier Mascherano, Fernando Torres and Gerrard in their prime. It wasn’t a bad team.
“Why Liverpool? I couldn’t really tell you. They were just the team I followed growing up so you can’t say I was a glory supporter because they weren’t very successful in that period. I just had an admiration for them and followed them ever since. Steven Gerrard, with the way he played, the way he went about his game and his demeanour was my favourite player growing up and I followed him quite closely.”
