Liverpool transfer round-up, Xhaka and Matip on radar, Teixeira deal yet to be finalised
With a new manager at its helm, Liverpool, not surprisingly are busy in the transfer window and have been linked to several stars all over Europe in the past few days.
Some deals are close to being stuck while others are just rumors going around on paper. Here is a round-up of all the action coming out of Anfield today:
Firstly, new reports have emerged that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has met with agents of Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Granit Xhaka according to the German Sports Bild.
Since December, Xhaka has been on the radar for the Reds as they look for some replacements in the defensive midfield area. Though the player is contracted in Germany till 2019, he is free to move away from the club from 2017 for a handsome sum of money.
30 million euros is the reported fee for the player and it is understood that Klopp is keen on bringing him to Anfield before the end of the January transfer window.
Elsewhere, Liverpool were dealt a blow in their pursuit of Barcelona star Ter Stegen after it was reported that a 10 million bid was rejected by the Catalan club demanding twice the price for a move this January.
Mignolet has been shaky at the back but his performance in the recent semi-final victory might give Klopp time to think about a replacement at the back.
But the biggest news of the day are rumors about Liverpool’s Brazilian target Alex Teixeira who has been on a brink of a move to Anfield since 2 weeks.
A 29 million bid was rejected earlier this week but new reports from the Express claim that the Reds are ready to meet he 38 million valuations of the player in a bid to bring him to Liverpool before the end of the January.
However, the fee is subject to a number of performance related bonuses and would break the 35 million Andy Carroll’s record signing for the club.
The rumors have intensified and it looks as if a move is imminent after it was reported that the Brazilian missed a third friendly in a row with Shakhtar and is keen on a move to Liverpool.
Moving on, Basel striker Breel Embolo a transfer target for Liverpool seems to be happy in Switzerland after reports that German side Wolfsburg had a 27 million bid rejected earlier today.
If Teixeira’s move is finalized, Embolo might no longer be a target for the Reds.
Liverpool have also reportedly submitted a bid for Schalke defender Joel Matip for a January transfer. Matip will be a free agent at the end of the season but Klopp is keen to get him to come to Anfield in January itself to fend off interests from other sides in the summer.
Sky Sports, reported that Liverpool placed a 6 million bid for the defender as Klopp tries to strengthen his defense after the poor showing in recent times.
18-year old Fred Woodman could be available as per Chronicle’s recent reports. The Newcastle shot-stopper has not signed a contract with the Magpies which has alerted a number of clubs including Liverpool who are looking for a backup option for Mignolet on goal.
And to end the round up with some spice, Luis Suarez the prolific ex-Liverpool forward made statements saying he would play only for Liverpool if he comes back to the EPL. The ex-Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers said that there is every possibility of the move happening.
Rodgers felt that Suarez is missing the Kop and its support and might be on his way back to Anfield if things go bad in Catalonia.
