After snapping up Steven Caulker on loan from Queens Park Ranger, Liverpool have reportedly set their eyes on strengthening their defense with a bid for another Premier League player.

The Times reported that Jurgen Klopp and Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini are in the market for a right back not impressed with their options at the moment.

And it is understood that both teams are plotting for a move for the West Ham player Aaron Cresswell for a move this January.

Cresswell has done exceptionally well this season for the Hammers under Slave Bilic and has risen to be one of the most exciting stars in the Premier League. He is also a surprise contender to feature in the England squad for the EURO16 in France later this year.

According to Times, Liverpool are ready to snatch up the defender before this window closes while it is understood that the Manchester franchise are willing to wait till the end of the season, potentially when they will have a new man in-charge to strike a deal.

City’s move for the player comes under the back of increased pressure on the club to sign homegrown players to comply with the regulations of the UEFA’s homegrown quota.

However, Cresswell will surely be accompanied with a hefty price tag having signed a 5-year contract with the Hammers last June. West Ham will surely quote a huge price especially in the January transfer window making the transfer less likely this month.

But the speed with which Klopp has got the deals for a number of players done in January, we cannot completely rule out a possible move for the young English defender.

Stay tuned for more updates
