Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp will be overjoyed by their victory over Sunderland on Saturday on a day when the Reds were just not at their best. Goals from substitute Divock Origi and James Milner were enough for the Reds on the night as they keep up their second place in the points table after 13 games.
However, not everything was rosy on the night for the Reds who had to see their star player Philippe Coutinho on crutches, having seemingly picked up an ankle injury. Daniel Sturridge and Adam Lallana did not make it to the match squad while Roberto Firmino has also picked up a knock in the game, leaving the Liverpool fans with a nervy week.
However, Klopp gave an update on the situation of all 4 players and here are the latest updates on their injuries:
Daniel Sturridge:
The English international was used in the game against Southampton last weekend and was expected to play a role at Anfield for this game. However, he complained of a calf injury and was dropped from the squad for Sunderland.
Speaking to the media, Klopp revealed, “He (Daniel Sturridge) had a tight calf. He hasn’t trained for two days and I have no idea when he is back. It is not sure that he can train tomorrow, so he was out because of this injury.”
So the English striker is ruled out of the League Cup quarter-final.
Adam Lallana:
The versatile inform midfielder for Liverpool was dealt a cruel blow in the international break and missed the game against Southampton and also this weekend. He picked up a groin injury that has kept him out of the game for a couple of weeks now but reports suggest that he might be back in training soon and ready for the Bournemouth game.
He is an integral part of the squad at the club this season but is not expected to make it to the squad for the League Cup game against Leeds on Tuesday.
Philippe Coutinho:
The Brazilian has been the most important player for Liverpool for a couple of seasons now but he picked up a nasty looking injury to his ankle during the game at the weekend. He was stretchered off from the field but it was reported that the injury is not as bad as it first looked.
Klopp also revealed that it is not too damaging but reports today reveal that the playmaker will have a scan on his ankle on Monday to further assess his condition. He is expected to miss at least 2-3 weeks for Liverpool.
Roberto Firmino:
The Brazil playmaker has also been an important weapon for Klopp who has helped stitch this Liverpool side together. He is the first choice striker for the club this season but he also picked up an injury in the game against Sunderland.
After the game, Klopp revealed that Firmino picked up a knock but said that it was not as bad as Coutinho’s. Speaking to the media, Klopp said, “He (Firmino) is much better than Phil, but has pain in the calf.”
He is expected to miss the derby game but might be back for the game against Bournemouth at the weekend.
