According to The Athletic, Liverpool have shown interest in signing LOSC Lille midfielder Amadou Onana.
Onana has come to the Reds’ attention after an impressive 2021/22 campaign with the French side. However, Liverpool join a long list of clubs who are eager to striker a deal for the defensive midfielder.
Premier League clubs in Arsenal, West Ham United, Newcastle United and promoted side Nottingham Forrest have all registered their interest in the 20-year-old.

The Reds have bolstered their attack and full-back department with the signings of Darwin Nunez, Fabio Carvalho and Calvin Ramsay respectively. However, they still lack a proper depth in the midfield and are hence looking to add Onana.
Jurgen Klopp wants the versatile midfielder at Liverpool
Liverpool are low on options in the midfield, especially in the defensive department. Fabinho is the only defensive mid available for Klopp after Gini Wijnaldum left last summer.
The German hence wants Onana who operates as a natural number-6, but can also be deployed at center-back. Onana’s this versatility has further ignited the Merseyside club’s interest in him.
Onana made 42 appearances for Lille in all competitions last season out of which 32 came in the Ligue 1. The midfielder racked up 3.4 tackles, 2.25 interceptions, 16.8 presses and 2.05 shot-creating actions per 90 in the league.

While Klopp has often deployed Jordan Henderson as a number-6 in Fabinho’s absence, the Liverpool captain has struggled to hold the position.
Liverpool as a result want another defensive midfielder to ease things in that department. However, the Reds will have to accelerate their efforts if they are to acquire the services of Onana this summer.
West Ham have already sent a bid to Lille for Onana as confirmed by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. The Italian revealed Lille have rejected a bid of £25 million from the Hammers.
But West Ham are ready to improve their offer since manager David Moyes has identified Onana ‘main target as midfielder’ added Romano.
Liverpool will reportedly make a final decision over Onana’s signing in the coming weeks suggest reports coming out of Anfield.
