Former Liverpool great Grahan Souness believes that his former club will regret the decision of letting Steven Gerrard leave in the summer. Gerrard announced his decision of leaving the club earlier in the season having agreed to play for LA Galaxy in the MLS, United States.
Souness has questioned Liverpool’s approach towards handling the Gerrard exit saga. The former Reds midfielder still believes that Gerrard has a part to play in the Liverpool’s development like he has shown in Lverpool’s last two games.
Gerrard has now scored 2 goals and rescued 4 points for his side against QPR and Chelsea respectively. In his latest match, Gerrard scored the crucial equalizer against Chelsea to have the last laugh at Stamford Bridger after his infamous failure last season, which cost Liverpool the league.
Souness still believes that Gerrard can offer a lot to the club if used properly. Speaking in the post-match show, Souness said: “I don’t understand why they’re letting him go,”
“I know he wouldn’t be the same Steven Gerrard we’ve seen over the last decade – he’s not going to be 90 minutes, not going to be the game-changer he’s been time and time again.
Souness continued, “Certainly have him on the bench. I think to bring him on he can certainly swing games. He’s shown that today – he got them back into the game.
“I just can’t understand on any level why you’d allow him to leave the club at this time. A club that’s got a group of young players that might go on and be real players one day.
“I think there’s life left in Steven Gerrard and I think the Americans are lucky to get him at this time. At Liverpool, they will regret getting rid of him.”
