Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers might have stated that he would not be investing in the squad but the Reds seem to be intent on bringing more talented youngsters into their academy for a bright future. Liverpool missed out on Martin Odegaard, the highly rated Norwegian midfielder who earlier last week signed for Real Madrid.
This hasn’t dampened Liverpool’s plan of buying young and nurturing players, they have now set their sights on a South American striker who plays for Cerro Porteno. Sergio Diaz is a 16 year old Paraguayan striker has already scored 8 goals in 20 appearances for Cerro and has been on the radar for a lot of the top clubs in Europe.
Liverpool are being linked with a move for the striker according to reports coming in from Italy and a deal might be struck with the Paraguayan team for a reported £7 million, which might seem a lot of a 16 year old striker but the fee does not seem to be much of a hurdle for the English club.
The Reds have looked to young talent since the reign of Kenny Dalglish (the second time) and the same policy has been followed by Brendan Rodgers who has given debuts to Wisdom, Ibe and Rossiter. The team have relied heavily on young players Raheem Sterling and Emre Can this season, while Jon Flannagan was a big part of the team last season but is recovering from a long term injury at the moment.
This probably won’t be the kind of news that Liverpool fans would have wanted to hear as they have struggled with their strikers not being able to be as proficient in front of goal as they would have hoped. Liverpool though are one a good run and are unbeaten in their last 10 games, they next have a tough away tie against Chelsea in the League Cup semi-final 2nd leg.
The first leg saw Liverpool dominate the game and Chelsea held out with a 1-1 draw, Chelsea then got knocked out of the FA Cup as they were beaten 4-2 by Bradford City at Stamford Bridge.
