Liverpool look set to hand Manchester United a major blow after it was confirmed that Brendon Rodgers has made an official approach to sign Memphis Depay this summer. Depay has been linked with a move to Old Trafford all season long.
Earlier this week, PSV’s sporting director confirmed an official approach made by Manchester United but there was no bids for the time being. Liverpool senses the opportunity and have gone ahead by placing a preliminary bid in the region of £15-18 million bid for the Dutch sensation.
PSV’s sporting director confirmed Liverpool’s bid for Depay but went on to say that, it is not enough to sign the play of Depay’s caliber. Manchester United have been made aware of Liverpool’s intentions of signing their key transfer target and it will not go down well with Louis Van Gaal.
Depay was an instrumental player in helping PSV win their league title in over 7 seasons by scoring 21 goals and making 4 assists this season. Depay has cordial working relations with Louis Van Gaal and United are relying on that aspect to sign the Dutch starlet ahead of Liverpool.
The attacking winger has been given permission to talk with several European giants like Manchester United, Liverpool and PSG. Depay is all set to leave PSV this summer, only thing to be seen is who ends up signing one of the future stars of the game.
