Liverpool are on the brink of selling Australian left-back Brad Smith to Premier League rivals Bournemouth for £6m.
The Reds have already accepted an offer for him, and the Aussie defender has been given permission to hold talks with the Cherries, according to a report from Sky Sports .
Liverpool Echo have also suggested that Smith is all set to leave the club’s pre-season tour of America and fly back to the UK.
Smith broke into the Liverpool team under Klopp last season, playing a backup role to Alberto Moreno and making 10 appearances in total.
Smith made his debut for the club under Brendan Rodgers at Chelsea in December 2013, but almost left the club a year ago when his contract expired and a new deal couldn’t be agreed. Eventually, a deal was agreed shortly after Klopp’s arrival and he found himself given an opportunity in the FA Cup, scoring at Exeter City.
Jurgen Klopp has been searching the market for a new left-back, and will now have to dig deeper to find a replacement for the Australian to provide the underwhelming Alberto Moreno with some competition for starting spot.
It will be the second time this summer that Liverpool have done business with Bournemouth following the £15m sale of England Under-21s winger Jordon Ibe.
Elsewhere, Fiorentina are the latest club to be linked with a loan move for Liverpool misfit Lazar Markovic, with no signs that the Serbian did enough while on loan at Fenerbahce last season to force himself into Jurgen Klopp’s plans for the coming season.
Markovic has played some part in the Reds’ pre-season friendlies as Klopp keeps him involved with the squad, but it’s believed that the club have made it clear to potential suitors that the 22-year-old will be available for transfer or loan.
