Jurgen Klopp’s side made the trip away to the KP Stadium for their clash against league leaders Leicester City, as both sides were keen to secure all three points in this all-important fixture. The Reds wanted to beat Claudio Ranieri’s team once again, as they did at Anfield and challenge for a top four finish. Despite all their efforts, it did not go as per plan as the home side had other ideas. The game started off with a goalless first half, in which chances were wasted by both sides. The two sides went into the break knowing that the match could sing either side and were hoping to pick up the win.
In the second half, it was once again a Jamie Vardy show, as the striker scored twice to win his side the game. The first was a show of brilliance from the attacker, as the England international put a long range dipping volley past Simon Mignolet. Later he added a second goal to his name in the 71st minute to make the score 2-0 and secure that his side went three points clear second place Manchester City. The Merseyside club failed to get anything out of the game and were beaten comprehensively.
Here are how the Liverpool players performed in the 2-0 loss to Leicester:
Simon Mignolet: 3/5
Could not do much about the Vardy brace, though he did his part in the first half to keep the side’s level.
Alberto Moreno: 2.5/5
Created some good chances for his side, though was not the most solid player at the back. His deflection off of Okazaki’s shot
put the ball in Vardy’s path for the second goal.
Dejan Lovren: 1.5/5
Vardy enjoyed his game up against Lovren, who was quite slow and weak to defend most times.
Mamadou Sakho: 2/5
Clearly did not enjoy his battle with Mahrez, as the hosts scored their second goal. Failed to deal with the threat of Okazaki.
Nathaniel Clyne: 2.5/5
Pushed forward really well with some pace. However, no real impact as Liverpool did not really threaten to score.
Lucas Leiva: 3/5
Did his job for most of the game in midfield, preventing the opposition to get away with much while he was around.
Adam Lallana: 2.5/5
Put in some good crosses into the box, but was eventually frustrated as the chances were not capitalized on and as the game went on.
James Milner: 2/5
Looked to play some smart football in midfield, though could not create much in the game for his side.
Jordan Henderson: 2.5/5
Looked good pushing forward and joining the attack, though was loose on the ball at times and gave the possession away to the opposition.
Emre Can: 2.5/5
Put in a solid shift in the game, yet could not really do much as the quality was lacking in the final third.
Roberto Firmino:2/5
Not the sort of impact the fans and manager would have expected from him in a crucial game like this.
Substitutes:
Christian Benteke: 2/5
Though there was not much service provided to him, he did make the most of what he got after coming on for Henderson.
Joe Allen: 2.5/5
Could not make too much of an impact in the game, as Leicester were quite strong till the end.
