Liverpool roundup: striker confirms snubbing Reds, Lewa backs Reds for title and more 1

Brazilia striker Cleverson Codova has revealed that he snubbed Reds in 2011 in favour of Chinese Super League as he was in peak form in the Serbian league during that time.

The 31-year old has been playing for Guangzhou Evergranade and was moved to the club in a record transfer that saw Chinese League slowly buying top-class football talent from Europe.

He said: “It was a situation where I had to go, I had no choice.

“This bid from China was of a lot of money. I was the most expensive transfer of the Chinese league at that time!

“It was then that they began to invest heavily in foreigners. But for that I had to give up on many offers from Europe, such as Liverpool, Fiorentina, Lyon and Marseille.”
