Liverpool Roundup: Three Players Sign New Deals, Striker Lined Up and More Interesting Stories

Liverpool have had the best start possible to their campaign as Jurgen Klopp has got the signings that he desired for in his first summer transfer window at Anfield.

The Reds have looked a class apart when it comes to attack as they have been the most dominant side in term of goals and shots on target in the league than any other side. The Reds have become the sole league leaders in the Premier League last weekend when they win 6-1 against Watford.

Here we look at all the interesting stories around Liverpool today.

Liverpool defender Nathaniel Clyne has admitted that Senegalese international Sadio Mane is the fastest player in the Reds’ roster.

‘Me and him in a race? That would be tough and a close one,’ Clyne told Goal.

‘I have to say, he is faster, definitely when he is on the ball anyway. The top three are Sadio, then me and then Alberto [Moreno].’

The winger has been pivotal in the Reds’ attack as he has scored six goals and assisted two more this season.

‘He has been great, he has provided assists and he has scored goals. He is on fire at the moment. There’s so much quality around the squad, you look around the dressing room at the players we have got, and we have so much ability,’ he added.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has insisted that the current group of players will need to create their own history rather than getting burdened by the comparisons of the past.

The Reds go into the international break with 26 points in 11 league games as the leaders in Premier League and there has been comparisons with sides of the past. It has been nearly 26 seasons ago that Reds have managed a league title.

“It’s a really good moment and I know that everybody compares with the past, especially at Liverpool,” he told the club’s official website. “Three years ago, 10, five, 25 years ago — but this team is new, we are new.

“Our story started a few months ago so you cannot compare us with anyone else. You cannot carry the history on our backs, we should feel free for creating something in the near future.

“If everybody wants to say ‘We wait now for 20-something years for silverware’ or whatever, we can say ‘OK, we [have] tried, actually, only since a year.’ So that gives us the freedom to look in the future quite optimistically.”

Liverpool announced new deals for Kevin Stewart, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Ben Woodburn who have all committed their long term futures to the Reds.

Stewart and Arnold have signed contracts till 2021 while Woodburn signed a three-year contract as it is the maximum length a player of his age could sign.

“This is really positive news of course,” Klopp said speaking of the news. “And it’s brilliant we have acted decisively to show our intent with our young players.

“With Kev it is maybe a little different. He is of course established with us now and making a contribution as an important member of our first-team squad.

“Trent spends most of his time with the first team in this moment and is progressing each and every day. Ben is in those earlier stages and has a lot of developing to do still — but wow, what an exciting talent he is.”

Liverpool captain had heaps of praise for his attacking players Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane as he described them as “world-class players”.

“They are world-class players,” Henderson told multiple English newspapers. “Their understanding of the game, not only going forward, but also the work rate they all give for the team in terms of pressing and winning the ball back high up the pitch. They all help the team defensively.

“The three of them are fantastic at that and then going forward they are unstoppable when they are on it.”

Liverpool are considering a move for FC Rostov striker Sardar Azmoun as Jurgen Klopp is keen to ensure the absence of Sadio Mane and Danny Ings is not felt in January.

Danny Ings is out for the season following knee surgery while Mane will participate in the African cup of Nations which would see him out of action for Reds for over a month. Sardan Azmoun has been linked with a number of Premier League clubs earlier as he has played an important role in helping Rostov reach the group stages of Champions League this season.
