Liverpool stalwart beats Chelsea and Manchester City stars to the PFA player of the month for August and September
After a thumping 5-1 victory over Hull City at the weekend, Anfield outfit Liverpool will go into the last game before the international break, high on confidence.
Goals from Sadio Mane, Adam Lallana, Phillipe Coutinho and a brace from James Milner gave Liverpool all three points at Anfield at the weekend as they moved to the 4th place in the points table at the end of the week.
They now look a strong team that is hard to beat and Jurgen Klopp’s summer signings have a bit to do with it.
The likes of Loris Karius and Joel Matip have now taken a regular place in the starting XI but one player who has assumed an important role in the squad is former Southampton winger Sadio Mane.
The 24-year old has adapted to Klopp’s style of play right from the first game and has already helped Liverpool to a couple of points or more.
He has been excellent in a Red shirt and his absence was evident in the only game he missed this season against Burnely where Liverpool fell to an embarrassing loss.
His effect on the Liverpool side is clear, but Mane has now surpassed all the attacking talent in the League to be named the Player of the Month for August and September.
The Senegalese winger was in top form, scoring some important goals for the side.
He was on target in the Hull City game and has scored 3 goals and also picked up an assist making him one of the most effective players in the League so far this season.
That was just stressed on when it was revealed that the 24-year old was named the PFA Fans’ Premier League Player of the Month for the first two months of the season.
This award was decided by a voting process conducted by Sky Sports between 6 players who were impressive in the first couple of months of the new season.
Mane was up against the likes of Diego Costa, Michail Antonio, Etienne Capoue and Curtis Davis.
Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne came second with 24,340 votes, way ahead of Watford midfielder Etienne Capoue in third with 6,256. Rounding off the top six were Diego Costa (4,247), Michail Antonio (3,116) and Curtis Davies (1,837).
The six candidates were chosen by our expert panel, which included Sky Sports pundits Ian Holloway, Peter Beagrie and Paul Merson, Mike Riley – general manager of the Professional Game Match Officials, and Malcolm Clarke – chairman of the Football Supporters’ Federation.
It will come as great news for Liverpool fans who were not sure about the amount of money the club spent on the winger in the summer.
Liverpool were accused of aver paying for their target in the transfer window, but this award will erase all such doubts in the minds of the fans who are loving his time at the Merseyside.
Who do you think was the player of the month for the first two months of the Premier League this season?
