The Red of Merseyside has not seen successful times in the recent past. The present manager Brendan Rodgers is yet to lift any kind of trophy and Anfield has not been at the top of its voice for some time now. After coming close to lifting the Premier League in the 2013-14 season, last season was nothing short of a disaster as the club failed to end the season with a top four spot.

This season, the team has a very different look to it and the manager has his last opportunity to prove to the faithful that he can bring back the glory days of the past.

In this article, we will take a look at all the transfer activity that Liverpool has done in the busy transfer window that has just closed –

All the INs and OUTs of Liverpool - Transfer Roundup 2The biggest loss by far for the club has been their legend Steven Gerrard. Gerrard was not offered a new contract last season and decided that he will leave his childhood club to pursue his career in a less challenging MLS league. His absence will be felt badly by the team and the fans alike. Apart from him, Raheem Sterling also moved out of the club for a large fee after a bit of a rant with the club. Manchester City signed him and paid heavily for his services.

This amount was spent largely on two players. Roberto Firminio the Brazilian was bought to Anfield from Hoffenheim for a fee in excess of £22 million. He may well be a good partner to his fellow Brazilian Phillipe Coutinho in front of the goal. Christian Benteke from Aston Villa is another big name arrival to the club after the 24 year old impressed everyone last season.

James Milner on a free transfer from Manchester City is another signing that will make the fans happy. Danny Ings and Divock Origi will add a bit of depth to the attacking front and will provide cover for Sturridge who will recover in less than a months time. Nathaniel Clyne yet another Saints player along with Joe Gomez were purchased to strengthen their defense.

However, the club also lost some players like Glenn Johnson, Javier Manquillo whose loan spell was terminated, Rickie Lambert and Fabio Borini. Mario Balotelli also went back to Milan in the transfer window after failing to grab his place in the Liverpool starting lineup. Lazar Markovic who is still young was loaned to Fenerbache for an years loan.

Though very active, the club has a net spent of £21.4 million in this transfer window. The team started strongly in this season but their 3-0 loss to West Ham United at home will be an eye opener and will give the manager a lot to think about before he gets to lock horns against Louis van Gaal.
