The big game on Sunday this week in the Premier League is the clash between two teams who have faltered this season. Liverpool take on Arsenal and memories of Liverpool trouncing the Gunners 5-1 last season have all but vanished due to their poor form this season. Arsenal are 6th in the table and don’t look anywhere close to the team that did so well at the start of last season.
Liverpool themselves look a shadow of the team that almost won the title last season and will be missing Mario Balotelli who serves a suspension for a post he made on instagram. The game still should be a cracker since both teams will be looking to close down and try to climb back into the top 4 which is the target both clubs need to achieve.
With so many stars taking the pitch, we look at 5 players who could be the game changers in this highly intriguing clash.
Santi Cazorla: Arsenal
The Spanish attacker had a bit of a blip in form but he has come back strong, he scored a brace in the Gunners 4-1 win over Newcastle and has often created problems for the Liverpool team. Cazorla is a great dribbler and loves to create chances for this team. The Liverpool midfield will need to snuff him out but that is easier said than done, especially with a team that has so many attackers.
Raheem Sterling: Liverpool
The 20 year old has been one of the best players for a Liverpool team that has lost Suarez. Sterling has carried the Liverpool attack due to the absence of any goals from the forward line up. Sterling was at his best during that incredible second half for Liverpool last season and was one of the tormentors that ripped the Arsenal defence in the corresponding fixture last season.
Alexis Sanchez: Arsenal
The Chilean has taken to the Premier League like a fish to the water, it seems that Sanchez has always played in the Premier League and has been the best Arsenal player this season. Mesut Ozil has almost been forgotten thanks to the Chilean’s goals and play. He snubbed Liverpool for London to sign for the Gunners and he will be looking to drive another nail into Liverpool’s coffin on Sunday.
Steven Gerrard: Liverpool
The Liverpool captain has allayed a lot of fears of him not being up to the mark after a slow start to the season. He is now playing a more advanced role for the club and with him not having to defend as much as he used to, he seems to have found another gear for the Reds. Gerrard played in the League cup win over Bournemouth in midweek and might not last the complete game but he is someone who can make things happen, Arsenal should beware.
Olivier Giroud: Arsenal
He may have the chocolate boy looks but make no mistake, Olivier Giroud is a deadly finisher and he only needs a chance to make a goal. Incredible in the air, Giroud would prove a tough player to deal with in the box thanks to his movement and the Liverpool centre back pairing will have their work cut out to try and keep him under wraps.
