Liverpool will Equal A 94-Year-Old Club Record If They Lose To Chelsea 1

Liverpool host Chelsea at Anfield on Tuesday night (31st January) and defeat would see them equal an unwanted 94-year old club record.

In the past week, Liverpool have lost at home to Swansea in the league, Southampton in the EFL Cup and Wolves in the FA Cup. However, a loss to the current league leaders will equal a club record of four straight home defeats.

That record was set back in 1923, when Liverpool lost four consecutive home games between 24th November and Christmas Day. Manager David Ashworth paid the price for that run and was replaced the following month.

Cardiff City 0-2

Newcastle United 0-1

Klopp isn’t quite on the verge of being replaced just yet but equalling that record is an extremely real possibility.

Leaders Chelsea are in great form and will be looking to increase their lead at the top of the table. They have only lost one of their last sixteen league matches and kept clean sheets in six of their last eight.

It is a daunting prospect for Klopp and his players and their only focus must be the match itself. However, talk of unwanted records and their poor run of form may have a negative effect on the squad.

The last time Liverpool looked like equalling the 1923 run of four home defeats in a row was in 2012. Brendan Rodgers was the manager when they held Stoke to a 0-0 draw in match four of the run, after defeats to Arsenal, Manchester United and Udinese.

So, can Klopp lead his side to at least a point on Tuesday and prevent them equalling this unwanted

record or will he face the prospect of being the only Liverpool manager to lose five home games in a row?
