Alexandre Lacazette admits he will leave Lyon this summer amid Arsenal’s long-running interest in the striker.
Last summer, the Gunners failed with a £29 million bid for the 25-year-old, who has scored 18 goals in 17 Ligue 1 appearances this season.
But the France international has now revealed that this is likely to be his final campaign with Lyon.
“I think it has arrived at the right time, I think this summer will be the moment when we will have to change the air and discover something else,” Lacazette told Canal+.
“Always with the idea of advancing and progressing football and on a human level.
“Will continue to work again, hoping that there will be some great opportunities coming this summer.”
There was a time when Alexandre Lacazette looked to be as sure to come to Arsenal as Granit Xhaka. The French striker wanted to get away, he was young and French, and the Gunners needed a striker dearly. Everything lined up, except for a price tag.
Following Saturday’s lunch time loss to the roaring Chelsea, Arsenal are 12 points behind the league leaders and only a miracle can help them win the league.
Tick tock, near misses, tiki taka, but with no productivity at the end of the game. Similar style of play against two different teams in a span of three days and zero points to add to their tally of 47.
As things stand, finishing in the top four will be a real challenge given the pitiless nature of the business end of the season.
For Arsenal fans, this is a huge moment to reconsider their relationship with their longest serving and most successful manager. Yet, in the past 13 years, he only has three FA cups to show for it. The jury is out on this one.
