Liverpool winger Luis Diaz has himself provided an injury update after sitting out for four months due to a knee injury. The Colombian’s absence has massively contributed to the Reds’ downfall this season as they currently sit tenth in the Premier League, are out of the FA Cup and League Cup and face defending champions Real Madrid in the two-legged affair of the round of 16 of the Champions League over the next one month.

Diaz has now spoken about his return to action, which might have delighted Jurgen Klopp who is feeling the heat at Anfield. The 26-year-old is apparently eyeing a comeback against the Los Blancos, when Liverpool travel to Santiago Bernabeu on March 16. While its still a long way to go, the Reds believe Luis Diaz can once again provide the club with a push in their season, like the one his did after arriving in the January of 2022.

‘No worries’ – Luis Diaz relishing the possibility of making a return against Real Madrid

Luis Diaz has missed the last four months of action due to a knee injury he sustained against Arsenal in October 2022 that ultimately required surgery after a setback in his first recovery. As he works his way back to full fitness, Diaz has resumed light training with the Reds and might be available for a trip to the Santiago Bernabeu on March 16 when Liverpool will be locking horns with Real Madrid in the second leg of showdown in the Champions League round of 16. Diaz told Sky Sports:

“I hope to be back soon. Let’s wait a little just to see when I can come back to the pitch and if it’s at the Bernabeu, it will be no worries.”

Liverpool has struggled to keep up with the consistency in the absence of Luis Diaz, who had notched an all important 4 goals and 3 assists in 11 games before sustaining the knee injury. Club record signing Darwin Nunez, who too has been struggling since making his move to Merseyside in the summer acknowledged that Diaz is ‘fundamental’ to Jurgen Klopp’s plans. The 26-year-old replied in response to those remarks:

“I saw what Darwin said and, yes, it’s important to be back, but it’s not only me. The idea is to be back and help the team with all my friends and the players that play on the team. I want to be back and to have a good second part of the season.”

Nunez would be thrilled to hear of Diaz’s impending return as he had suggested that the winger would be essential to the Reds’ chances of reversing their current slump in form and battling back up the Premier League standings. With Liverpool tenth in the table and a staggering 11 points adrift the top four places, there’s a general fear that they might just miss out on Champions League football next season.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are also bracing themselves to welcome the return of another forward, Diogo Jota who has resumed training. Likewise Luis Diaz, Jota too has missed the last four months due to a calf injury. But there is optimism now that the 26-year-old will be back on the field before the end of the month. Jurgen Klopp will now hope to have all of his attacking options fully fit by the time Liverpool prepare for their trip to Madrid.
