Croatia and Real Madrid midfielder, Luka Modric has been named as the UEFA Player of the Year defeating Cristiano Ronaldo and Mohamed Salah. He has also won the midfielder of the year award.

Luka Modric has bagged two awards in the 2018 UEFA Awards.

Modric, who played 11 matches in the Champions League in the last season scored once and assisted once. However, his contribution was phenomenal throughout, and he played a significant role in his side’s hattrick of Champions League wins.

However, despite scoring 15 goals in the Champions League, Ronaldo had to remain satisfied with the forward of the year award only. While Mohamed Salah, who had a breathtaking run in the Champions League had to remain empty-handed.

With the FIFA Golden Ball award and now the UEFA player of the year, Luka Modric is currently living the best time of his career. He also took his side Croatia to the final of the FIFA World Cup 2018 in Russia. After winning the award, the Croatian midfielder didn’t forget to dedicate it to his coaches and team-mates.

“I would like to dedicate this to my coaches and my team-mates. They are there in the good moments and also the not so good moments, so this is for them.”

Meanwhile, Real Madrid dominated the night completely with all awards belonging to them. Keylor Navas was named as the Goalkeeper of the year while skipper Sergio Ramos won the defender of the year accolade.

Pernille Harder of Wolfsburg and Denmark was named UEFA Women’s Player of the Year. She beat Ada Hegerberg and Amandine Henry to win the award.

And Georgia international defender, Guram Kashia won the inaugural UEFA #EqualGame Award. The award was given because he took a stand for diversity by wearing a rainbow armband in support of LGBT rights in the face of intense criticism from his homeland.
