After Barcelona, it is the Madrid clubs who have been banned from signing players for the same reason because of which the Catalan giants could not shop for players in the last transfer window- irregularities in their young signings.

As per FIFA sanctions, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid have been banned from participating and entertaining any transfers in the light of irregularities in their signing of under 18 players. The clubs are said to have breached several provisions under the transfer and registration of players aged below 18.

The statement issued by FIFA was “Both clubs are to serve a transfer ban that prevents them from registering any players at national and international level for the next two complete and consecutive registration periods for breaching articles 5, 9, 19 and 19bis as well as annexes 2 and 3 of the Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players (the ‘Regulations’).”

However the ban does apply to this January transfer window and the clubs have until the end of this month to complete their signings.

Furthermore the teams have also been fined for their misconduct and have been given a period of 90 days to get the concerned affairs in order as per the statement of the governing body which goes “Additionally, Atletico de Madrid and Real Madrid have been fined CHF 900,000 and CHF 360,000 respectively, while both clubs have been issued with a reprimand and given 90 days in which to regularise the situation of all minor players concerned.”
