Manchester United are ready to make an offer for Palmeiras youngster Gabriel Jesus, reports Brazilian media.
Brazilian outlet Estadao, says United are all set to battle it out with Manchester City for the 19-year-old starlet.
They are planning to trump City’s reported £27m bid with an offer of £29m excluding bonuses to try to make the deal successful.
Old Trafford hierarchy hope that will also be enough to see off interests from Barcelona, Real Madrid, Inter Milan and Paris St-Germain.
Jesus is, however, believed to have a £25m release clause in his current Palmeiras deal, which still has over three years left to run.
But latest reports claim the terms of his contract clearly state that United, Bayern Munich, PSG, Barca and Real could all theoretically buy the highly-rated forward for just £20m.
But competition from across Europe for the youngster’s signature is likely to see his fee surpass any existing release clause.
Dubbed the ‘Palmeiras Neymar’ by the media, 18-year-old Gabriel Jesus is one of the leading lights of the U-20 Brazil side. Many at Palmeiras consider Gabriel to be the best player to have emerged from their academy in a long time, hardly surprising given his fantastic youth goalscoring record.
That coolness under pressure lends itself to Gabriel’s main attribute: his ever composed finishing. His record at youth team level speaks for itself and, though he is yet to manage a senior goal, it is surely only a matter of time before that prowess carries through to his first team action.
Another of the youngster’s main assets is his pace, with a direct running style to strike fear into defenders’ hearts, while his hold-up play seems surprisingly good for a man of his small stature.
