PSG confirm Matuidi could leave this summer

PSG boss Unai Emery has finally revealed that Blaise Matuidi could leave the French champions this summer and it certainly comes as a welcome news for both Manchester United and Chelsea.

The France international has really struggled for a regular spot in PSG’s final eleven over the past few years.

Even Laurent Blanc’s sacking and Emery’s entry in the dugout doesn’t seem to confirm Matuidi’s position in the team. The arrival of Grzegorz Krychowiak also threatens his position in the team.

Meanwhile, Manchester United are eyeing him as a backup plan in any case Pogba deal fails and Emery has confirmed the player could be sold before the window closes.

He told French paper L’Equipe: “He is a very good player.

“We have a lot of left-footed defensive midfielders.

“If he has the opportunity to leave and if he thinks there are too many midfielders here… But I do not want him to go.”

On the other hand, Chelsea are more than happy to accept Matuidi’s staggering €800,000-a-month salary and could place an offer for the Frenchman any time, who is believed to be available for a price between €20m and €30m.

Juventus are also in the race as the Italian giants see Matuidi an ideal replacement for Pogba, who is edging closer to a Manchester United return.

The 29-year-old Frenchman joined PSG in 2011 for the only £6million, and since then has grabbed 237 appearances as well as proving himself as a regular starter for France.

Matuidi initially played as a defensive midfielder who could give a screen in front of the defence whenever needed and to cover across the field with his energy. However, he has now developed into a box-to-box midfielder to challenge any team in Europe with added goalscoring ability.
