This Man United star is accused of being responsible for Chelsea’s first goal

Several fans who attended Chelsea’s game against Manchester United this afternoon will have missed the opening goal.

It arrived after just 30 seconds. Anyone who struggled to find a parking spot around Stamford Bridge, or who were still in the process of buying a pie, will have missed it.

The goal was scored by Pedro, the Spaniard latching onto Marcos Alonso’s pass and tucking the ball beyond David de Gea, who made the questionable decision to charge out of his goal in an attempt to cut out the pass.

Jose Mourinho will have told his players, minutes before kick-off, to stay tight and not concede an early goal. But he had to re-think his tactics just seconds into the contest.

It wasn’t the easiest of finishes, but Pedro’s task was made easier by some wretched defending by De Gea and Daley Blind.

A picture shows the Dutchman’s position just prior to Alonso’s pass. Chris Smalling and Eric Bailly both pushed forward, playing an offside trap, but Blind, completely oblivious, remained deep.

This allowed Pedro to push further forward before he made the run that led to the goal.

Needless to say, Mourinho will be having words with Blind when he watches this one back.

MAN UNITED FANS ARE FURIOUS WITH BLIND

Manchester United fans had plenty to complain about during the match, with Blind on the receiving end of much of the vitriol.

Blind was brought to Old Trafford by Mourinho’s predecessor Louis van Gaal. The 26-year-old couldn’t look any further from the type of player Mourinho would want in his team, and it will be a major surprise if he’s still at the club next season.

The reason for Luke Shaw’s absence wasn’t made entirely clear by the United boss. The sooner he’s back, the better.
