Manchester United defender Daley Blind has insisted it was a huge mistake to predict he would be shown the door under new manager Jose Mourinho.
The 26-year-old was expected to be one of the causalities of the new regime in Old Trafford, but Blind has now ruled out any possible departure saying his fellow team-mates are still working hard to impress.
Blind flew to China with the rest of the first-team for their pre-season tour last month and even was part of the squad that started the 5-2 win over Galatasaray in Sweden over the weekend.
The Dutchman has resumed centre-back duties for Untied in pre-season so far and insisted he has been told nothing about his future at the club and expects to stay.
“People were making that mistake very quick,” Blind told the Daily Mirror.
“But nothing was said and just like all the other guys, I want to work very hard and get my spot in the team.
“I think in football, you never really have assurances. But I believe if you are confident and work hard that you will get chances.
“What I’m saying is not only for me, but everyone in the squad. That’s what I do, work hard and I want to be part of the team.”
Mourinho hasn’t started the culling of his United team. However, there has been plenty of incomings at Old Trafford with Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Eric Bailly, and Henrikh Mkhitaryan all arriving this summer.
For all the flaws of Louis van Gaal’s United, Blind’s presence in defence succeeded in bringing quality distribution from the back without compromising its effectiveness. Perhaps surprisingly, no team conceded fewer goals than United in last season’s Premier League.
