The Manchester derby could have been the night for Manchester City to celebrate their league win and they were going in the right track to achieve that until the red devils made a stunning comeback to spoil the party.
The City fans might have rightly started the party after the half time as the men in blue netted two goals. The first goal was scored by the captain Vincent Kompany while Gundogan scored the second and not only the goals that were visible, the domination over United throughout the first half was visible too.
It could have been more than two goals for City in the first half if they could have capitalize the chances, but who knew that the missed chances will cost City terribly in the second half.
The tables started to turn in the second half when midfielder Paul Pogba scored the first goal for United and the stadium became stunned silent when Pogba netted another just after one minute.
After conceding 2 goals in 3 minutes, City started to panic and their shaky defense said it all. In the 69th minute of the match, Chris Smalling volleyed the winner and completed the breathtaking comeback.
The end of the match was a furious free-for-all, in which a number of players might have been sent off.
City will still win the league but it’s been a miserable week for them, reminiscent of those desperate few days that cost Arsenal the Treble in 2004. It can turn into worse if they fail to make a comeback in the second leg of the Champions League against Liverpool on Tuesday.
