English champions Manchester City have activated Spanish midfielder Rodri’s £62.8 million release clause.

Atletico Madrid have confirmed that Manchester City have paid Rodri’s £62.8 million release clause, which makes his current contract terminate which was until 2023.

Rodri, had only signed the La Liga giants from Villareal in 2018 after spending three years with the yellow submarine.  The 23 year old made 34 appearances for Atletico and won the Europa League with the club. According to Manchester City he will wear the number 16 for the club.

He comes in as a long term replacement for the aging Fernandinho. Rodri is a holding midfielder who is a great passer of the ball and also good at headers.

He told City’s official website “What City have achieved in the last two years has been amazing and I’m looking forward to being part of such a talented squad, it’s not just the titles they have won, but the way they have managed it, playing attacking football at all times. It’s a style that excites me, as do the club’s ambitions.

I can’t wait to start working with Pep Guardiola and my new team-mates and hopefully we can achieve great things together.”

City also announced their other signing Angelino today

Angelino who has played for City previously was resigned today by activating his buyback clause of £5.25 million from PSV Eindhoven. He had enjoyed a great spell last season with the Dutch Club scoring once and providing 10 assists. The 22 year old has signed a four year contract with the English Club. He will have to fight for a place with Benjamin Mendy, Oleksander Zinchenko and Fabian Delph.

He had previously signed at the Etihad back in 2014 but didn’t make a single appearance with the club and was loaned to New York City, Girona, Mallorca and NAC Breda before agreeing to a permanent transfer to PSV in 2017.
