James Milner was the first signing of the summer from Liverpool as a part of their major overhaul in transfer window.

Manchester City have confirmed on their official Twitter account that James Milner has joined Liverpool:

The English versatile midfielder had spent almost 5 years at the blue half of Manchester and joined Liverpool after his contract expired.

The 29 year old former Aston Villa player was majorly a supersub for the oil rich club. He never got a streak of first team appearances unless players like David Silva or Samir Nasri were injured.

Milner can play as a central midfielder or a winger. He has even played as a right back under Chilean manager Manuel Pellegrini.

Milner started for the Citizens 18 times in Premier League last season and appeared as a substitute in 14 games. He scored 5 goals and assisted 7 which is very impressive.

He also scored once in Champions League and twice in FA Cup.

Milner won English Premier League with the Citizens twice in 2011-12 and 2013-14 season.

He also won one FA Cup, one FA Community Shield and one League Cup with the Sky Blues.

The former ‘PFA Young Player Of The Year’ is expected to play a key part in Brendan Rodgers’ Liverpool revolution. With the departure of long time captain Steven Gerrard, Liverpool lacks leadership and experience hugely with most of their stars being young. Milner has the ability to lead the team from front and help the team with his experience.

Liverpool have also signed four other players alongside Milner and expected to announce the sixth one very soon in the form of Nathaniel Clyne.
