Manchester City vs Barcelona: Team News and Predicted Lineups for both sides

After an intense round of fixtures in the Premier League, Europe’s elite competition the Champions League is back in town this week and has bought with it a number of high profile fixtures for the fans. Manchester City will get their chance at redemption just weeks after their humiliation at the Camp Nou as Barcelona travel to the Etihad for the return leg of the group stage fixture this season. Both teams are missing a few players for this game and here are the predicted lineups for both sides for this game.

Manchester City:

Team News:

Bacary Sagna, Pablo Zabaleta and Fabian Delph are ruled out for this game against Barcelona leaving Guardiola a bit weak in defense. Claudio Bravo will also miss this game serving a suspension for the red he received at the Camp Nou.

Formation: 3-4-3

Willy Caballero:

The 2nd choice shot stopper for City did a decent job after Bravo’s red in Spain and should start this game.

John Stones:

The Englishman was not at his best in the previous game but will be expected to dominate on the night at home.

Vincent Komapny:

The Belgian was a substitute for the game at the weekend and is expected to be restored to the starting lineup for this game.

Aleksandar Kolarov:

The full-back has done extremely well as a part of the back three and will keep his place for this game.

Jesus Navas:

The attacking winger will be used as a wing back with lack of personnel for this game against Barca.


The Brazilian has been a constant presence in the midfield for City and will start this game at the Etihad.

Ilkay Gundogan:

The summer buy had a game to remember at the weekend and will be back in action on Tuesday.

Raheem Sterling:

The former Liverpool man has been decent in a wing-back role for Guardiola and will keep his place in the squad.

David Silva:

The Spaniard will have to play an important role on Tuesday if City are to have a shot at all three points from this game.

Kevin de Bruyne:

Still trying to find his form from the start of the season, the Belgian will back in the starting lineup for this game against Barca.

Sergio Aguero:

Shockingly dropped for the trip to Camp Nou, Aguero is in full force and will start this game against Barcelona.



Team News:

Luis Enrique has a weak squad for this trip to England. Andre Iniesta, Jordi Alba, Aleix Vidal, Jeremy Mathieu and Gerard Pique are all missing for this game against Manchester City.

Ter Stegen:

The first choice shot stopper for Barca, Ter Stegen, should keep his place in the side for this game.

Sergi Roberto:

Lack of options at the back will see Sergi Roberto keep his place at right back for Enrique.

Samuel Umtiti:

Having settled well to the life at Barca, Umtiti, is expected to start this game in defense for his side.

Javier Mascherano:

The former Liverpool man will be pumped up on his return to England and will hope to have a good game.

Lucas Digne:

Though not at his best, Digne, has been decent for Barca and should start as a left-back for the side.

Having settled for a place on the bench at the weekend, Busquets, will be back in action on this trip to the Etihad.

The Croatian was dull in the game against Granada and will have to do better to give his side a shot at a victory on the night.


A utility player who came up with the goods against Granada, Rafinha, should keep his place in the starting Xi for this game.

The Argentine magician was out of sorts at the weekend but he will be pumped up for this trip to England.

Luis Suarez:

Facing familiar foes at the Etihad, Suarez, will be expected to produce a decent performance for the side in this game.

Neymar Jr:

The Brazilian was the best player for Barca at the weekend and he will hope to have a similar game against Manchester City.
