Manchester United and Manchester City are set to clash in the most awaited game of the season so far on this Saturday. The hype for the match is more than ever with Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho taking reigns at City and United respectively this summer.
According to Daily Mail, Police officers who will be on duty at the Manchester derby are set to be told about Pep Guardiola- Jose Mourinho’s fragile relationship which has soured during their clashes in La Liga and the effect that could have among the audience during the match.
However, around 400 policemen who will be at the match are set to search Old Trafford thoroughly after the Bournemouth fiasco that happened last season. The match was rearranged after a dummy bomb scare that led to mass evacuation last season.
But the policemen are confident about the match as they are not going to deploy additional forces despite it being the high profile game of the season so far.
A police source said: “There is no intelligence to suggest that there will be mass disorder.
“And while it does not necessarily affect the risk element, police are aware of the Jose Mourinho/Pep Guardiola rivalry and that the arrival of the new managers and their own rivalry could bring heightened tension.
“No extra resources are being deployed because of it, but it is something that will be part of the review and it will be relayed to officers who are on duty at the game.”
Chief Inspector Dean Howard who will be the match commander, said: “This is arguably the biggest game of the season so far and no doubt will have the eyes of the world watching.
“We have a lot of experience policing high-profile fixtures such as this and we work closely with officials and fan groups from both clubs. The vast majority of supporters are law-abiding members of the public and we hope all those in attendance enjoy the game in a competitive but safe atmosphere, allowing Manchester to once again showcase its football.”
