Manchester United (1-2) Manchester City: Player ratings
Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City continued their brilliant start to the season as they defeated arch rivals Manchester United 2-1 at Old Trafford to register their fourth win on the trot.
Kevin de Bruyne was the most impressive player in the match and was involved in both the goals. De Bruyne opened the scoring when a Aleksandar Kolarov’s long ball from deep in the City half was flicked on by Kelechi Iheanacho into the path of the Belgium international who stole in front of Daley Blind and found the back of the net after sending United goalkeeper the wrong way. De Bruyne played a big part in the second goal also as his shot after coming back off the post fell straight to Iheanacho who comfortably tapped it in. However, debutant City keeper Claudio Bravo spilt a Wayne Rooney cross at the feet of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who kept his composure to reduce the deficit.
Both the teams had their fair share of chances in the second half but the visitors held on to take all three points.
Let us see how the players performed:
David De Gea : 4.5/10:
He cannot be held responsible for the City goals and performed well in the second half where he made two crucial saves.
Antonio Valencia: 5/10
He was not looking at his fluent best but cannot be blamed as he returned to England from international duty just a day before the derby. Was caught out of position on several occasions.
Eric Bailly: 5/10
The Ivory Coast international failed to replicate his brilliant form of the last three matches and his mistake in the first half led City to open the scoring.
Daley Blind: 4/10
His performance just showed why Jose Mourinho was desperate to sign a centre-back during the transfer window. He made mistake in both the goals.
Luke Shaw: 5/10
Was troubled by the pace of Raheem Sterling on several occasion but had a satisfactory game overall.
Marouane Fellaini: 4/10
Made no major contribution except his physical presence in the match. Was easily ran over by the City players.
Paul Pogba: 4.5/5
The French international will have to improve by leaps and bounds if he wants to justify his price-tag. Failed to provide the stability in the midfield.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan: 2.5/1
Had a very poor game as he looked totally out of sorts in the attack
Wayne Rooney: 5/10
Failed to lead his team from the front and was lucky to be on the pitch as he escaped booking on several occasions. Could not provide Zlatan Ibrahimovic the good balls in the final third.
Jesse Lingard: 3/10
Struggled to go past Bacary Sagna and was also not looking very confident while defending.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic: 6.5/10
Was not looking at his fluent best but his physical presence was a constant threat for the City defenders. Also brought United in the game after scoring in the first half.
Marcos Rashford: 6/10
Totally justified his introduction in the second half as he was a constant threat for the City defense. Also scored a goal but it was ruled off side.
Gave the much needed impetus in the midfield. His introduction helped the United players to attack more.
Was introduced very late in the game and could not make much impact.
Claudio Bravo: 3.5/10
The former Barcelona goalkeeper started his EPL career disastrously. Was looking vulnerable against the crosses and his mistake to collect a cross in the first half helped United to claw their way back into the match after Zlatan Ibrahimovic capitalised on the mistake to score.
Bacary Sagna: 5.5/10
Had an easy time in the first half against Jesse Lingard but was seen struggling against Marcus Rashford in the second half.
John Stones: 6.5/10
Started the game brightly and kept the dangerous Ibrahimovic at bay but Bravo’s mistakes made him a bit nervous in the second half.
One of the most impressive defenders of the match. Looked completely comfortable against the aerial threat provided by Ibrahimovic.
Aleksandar Kolarov: 6/10
Kept his composure during the pressure situations in the defense and made played some good long balls to the front-line.
Kevin De Bruyne:9/10
By far the best man on the match, De Bruyne made the difference in the important clash. Totally controlled the midfield and opened the scoring. He was unlucky to hit the woodwork twice.
Played a vital role in helping the visitors to take control of the midfield.
Troubled Luke Shaw at the right flank with his pace but was not clinical in the box. His threat in the right flank helped his team to attack from the other side.
David Silva: 7/10
Helped the visitors to keep the possession and was looking very calm and composed during the entire match.
Gave Antonio Valencia all sorts of problems with his probing run.His dangerous run at the left flank helped Silva and De Bruyne to exploit the newly found space.
Kelechi Iheanacho: 6/10
Was given the tough task of filling the void left by Sergio Aguero but did a commendable job. Helped De Bruyne to open the scoring before tapping in the second goal
Was looking solid at defense and helped his back-line to safely negotiate the attacks from United late in the second half.
Pablo Zabaleta: 3/10
Came on the field very late and so could not make much impact.
Leroy Sane: 5.5/10
Showed promise with his runs on the left flank but lacked the ability to provide a quality ball in the final third.
