The highly anticipated Manchester Derby lived up to the expectations as it was full of high-quality football and high drama. Manchester City defeated Manchester United by 2-1 to register their fourth win on the trot.
Manchester City were totally dominant during the first half and a howler from new goalkeeper Claudio Bravo was the only negative for City boss Pep Guardiola. The first goal came from Kevin De Bruyne, who was undoubtedly the most impressive player on the pitch. Aleksander Kolarov’s long ball from deep in the City half was flicked on by Kelechi Iheanacho into the path of the Belgium international who stole in front of Daley Blind and found the back of the net after sending United goalkeeper the wrong way. De Bruyne played a big part in the second goal also as his shot after coming back off the post fell straight to Iheanacho who comfortably tapped it in. Jose Mourinho’s men reduced the deficit when Claudio Bravo failed to collect a routine cross and it failed straight at the feet of Zlatan Ibrahimovic who made no mistake.
Manchester United improved in the second half but the visitors still dominated them. Marcos Rashford’s 70th minute goal was ruled offside. With time running out, United players went all out to attack but could not find the equaliser.
