Jose Mourinho’s dream start to his Manchester United career came to a crashing end after his team were beaten in his own backyard by his nemesis.
Pep Guardiola managed to get the better of his Portuguese counterpart this weekend as he drew first blood in the new Premier League season.
However, this is not the first issue that will make Manchester Untied fans a bit agitated.
In the summer transfer window, Mourinho was criticized heavily for his treatment of one German legend Bastian Schweinsteiger.
The 32-year old midfielder moved to Old Trafford last summer but failed to have an impact on the squad due to regular injury setbacks and was told that he has not place in the squad under the new manager.
Though the German international was later included in the full squad for the club in the Premier League, he is yet to find a place on the bench and will surely have no chance of making the field throughout the season.
This raises the question as to why United are still in the hold of the player even after his high wages.
To answer the question, a recent report has suggested that the Premier League outfit almost got rid of the player this summer.
According to French outlet Telefoot, Bastian Schweinsteiger was close to a move to French outfit Marseille who were ready to make a bid for him.
However, it is revealed that Schweinsteiger is not yet ready to move out of the English league and wants to see off his contract at the club after rejecting a free transfer to Sporting Lisbon earlier this summer.
It is understood that Marseille were ready to pay a part of his transfer fee but were reluctant to meet his wage demands which were close to £200,000 a week.
This will leave Jose Mourinho frustrated as he will have to take the weight of the midfielders wage burden even if he does not have a place in the squad.
Do you think Manchester United can get rid of Schweinsteiger in January or next summer?
