Manchester United are already on the lookout of a replacement of Cristiano Ronaldo who could leave the club in January. The 37-year-old forward has wanted to leave Old Trafford ever since the summer transfer window, but was unable to find a new suitor. As a result, he had to stay back at the club and feature in the Europa League for the first time ever in his career, a reason which had forced him to quit United.

While the Red Devils were firm on their decision to keep hold of their star forward, they are reportedly ready to let him go as Erik ten Hag has made the call. The Dutchman hasn’t used the striker to build his project, unlike the previous managers and has handed him only two starts in 8 league games. Ten Hag has preferred young, pacey legs upfront and hence wants a new striker of same stature. Journalist Simon Phillips has now confirmed that United want former Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham next summer.

Ten Hag sees Abraham has perfect replacement of Cristiano Ronaldo

Erik ten Hag has set the record straight at United, and has right away established his high-pressing football at the club. The manager as a result has trusted young guns in Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Jadon Sancho and Antony, who are flourishing as well under him. Ten Hag has demanded the club sign him a new, young striker as United are scouting Tammy Abraham.

The Chelsea academy graduate has ample experiencing of the English top flight, before leaving for Roma last summer. The 25-year-old hit 30 goals across his 82 appearances for Chelsea in all competitions, also being a part of the club as they won the Champions League in 2021. However, the likes of Timo Werner and Romelu Lukaku forced Abraham to move out seeking regular minutes and Roma snapped him up for £36 million.

Since his move to Italy, the striker has continued his exploits netting 29 goals in 69 games for Jose Mourinho’s side. He also had claimed earlier that Mourinho has turned him into an absolute ‘monster’ as he is loving the life under the former Chelsea boss. Meanwhile, Calciomercato report that it is not only Mourinho who has been impressed by the England international, but Ten Hag too has taken note of the forward’s exploits.

Furthermore, Phillips has also revealed now that the Red Devils will look to acquire the services of the Roma player next summer. The journalist told  GiveMeSport:

“I am told that Manchester United are keen on signing Abraham in the summer.”

However, it won’t be easy for United to entice the youngster to Old Trafford. At this point, money doesn’t seem a hurdle for the Red Devils as they are ready to splash huge funds to reinforce their squad. But Abraham will need some convincing to come in as a replacement of Cristiano Ronaldo, when his former club Chelsea are keeping an on him as well. The Blues had inserted a buy-back clause of £69 million while selling him last summer, which reportedly kicks-n next summer.

Chelsea have already two of their strikers this summer, as Werner re-joined his former club RB Leipzig on a permanent deal and Lukaku went back to Inter on loan. While loan returnee Armando Broja has been given a chance this season, Aubameyang was brought in to feel in the void as well. But new manager Graham Potter wants a young and experienced striker to lead his project and is ready to bring back Tammy next season. On the other United too will have to hurry to find their successor of Cristiano Ronaldo who could bid adieu in the upcoming winter transfer market.
