Manchester United have been linked heavily with many top strikers in world football in the summer transfer window including Karim Benzema, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Harry Kane, Edinson Cavani, Robert Lewandowski. But the strongest interest of van Gaal was reported to be Bayrn Munich star forward Thomas Muller.
Telegraph reports that Manchester United have a £50 million for the German superstar and are hopeful to sign the versatile attacker.
Louis van Gaal is said to be desperate to reunite with the 25 year old whom he gave a chance during his time as Bayern Munich manager.
United have been linked with Muller for much of the summer and are hopeful that they can force Bayern’s hand with a staggering offer.
The problem they face is that the German giants are refusing to listen to any offer for the player, who remains a key part of their plans.
Bayern’s chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge reiterated on Thursday that Muller was not for sale and was furious with Manchester United.
He said: “Muller is not for sale. Our English colleagues seem to be unable to spend all of their money.”
“It’s difficult. Everyone knows our old friend Louis van Gaal. He is very stubborn in those things.”
“Maybe he thinks that there is a price where Bayern will start to ruminate but there is no price at all.”
“As I said because of our partners and our really good financial situation we are completely resistant.”
“There is no price, Thomas Muller has four years more on his contract.”
“There is no one, not here or anywhere, who can explain to me why we should sell Thomas Muller.”
Manchester United are reported to be close to sign Barcelona forward Pedro in coming days.
We have to see the response from Bayern for United’s high offer for their asset.
