Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United are currently building up some decent form going into the business end of the season.
The squad at the club is relatively strong but with the club active in four different competitions this season, Mourinho might be tempted to try and sign a few players in the January transfer window.
It is deadline day already and the manager does not have too much time to get deals done but Mourinho is now planning for the future and seems to have completed a move for the start of the next season.
According to reports from London Evening Standard, Manchester United have completed the signature of Benfica defender Nelson Semedo.
The 23-year-old is enjoying a steep rise in his career, having earned his first cap for the Portuguese national side recently. He has also cemented a place in the starting XI for Benfica and has 29 appearances to his name in all competitions in Portugal this season.
A right-back by trait, Semedo, has been a target for Jose Mourinho for some time now but with first choice full back at the club, Antonio Valencia, putting in some decent performances recently, Mourinho has now decided to wait till the summer to splash the cash on him.
Antonio Valencia signed a new long-term contract at the Old Trafford earlier this month and is expected to be the first choice at the club for a while but United have Timothy Fosu-Mensah as the only backup for the Ecuador international this season.
So Mourinho was eyeing a move for Semedo at the start of the month but the Portuguese giants are not ready to let their star leave this month leaving United with no other options.
Mourinho is adamant to get his national compatriot to the club this summer and has agreed upon a deal for the player already.
It is understood that Jose Mourinho is prepared to pay £27m for his services in the summer and the Benfica are ready to let him go if United are ready to meet his actual valuation.
At just 23, Semedo is an option for the long term and is also wanted by the likes of Chelsea for a move at the end of the season. He is also not as expensive as other options around Europe and could be a decent choice for Mourinho, pushing and improving Valencia, fighting for a place in the first team.
Do you think Nelson Semedo is a decent option for Manchester United?
