West Bromwich Albion is all set to sign central defender Jonny Evans from Premier League giants Manchester United in this transfer window.

Sky Sports reports, both the clubs have agreed an initial transfer fee and the 27-year-old will be appearing for a medical at the club in the coming days.

Jonny Evans was a product of Manchester United’s youth system who came up to the senior side following the ranks of the club.

He made his debut in 2007 and has since then appeared in 196 games in total for the club. In between he has won a UEFA Champions League title and three Premier League titles with the club.

Most notably the Northern Ireland international defender had lead the club last season in a Capitol One Cup tie against MK Dons which Unitd unfortunately lost 0-4.

Due to the presence of a number of defenders in the squad Louis van Gaal neglected Evans for almost the entire season last time. His performance was also not up to the mark. Thus moving out of the club is definitely a wise decision on the defender’s part.

If Evans’ deal happens, West Bromwich Albion will sell former English international defender Joleon Lescott to Aston Villa for an initial fee of £1m, plus potentially another £1m in add-ons.

Baggies boss Tony Pulis sounded excited regarding the new signing and revealed his admiration for the central defender. On Friday he said: “Jonny would be a great signing for the football club but it’s down to the money men and his side. It takes three parties, the player and the clubs.

“I’d love to sign Jonny Evans.”

West Bromwich Albion had become interested in Jonny Evans after Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Federico Fazio failed to agree a contract during a day of talks last week.

After this eal materializes both the parties as well as the player himself will benefit greatly.
