With senior strikers Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Wayne Rooney struggling to get going in front of the goal, Manchester United is reportedly eyeing Porto hotshot Andre Silva in a deal which could cost them£51.5m.
Ibrahimovic, who arrived at Old Trafford this summer from Paris Saint-Germain, has failed to perform consistently and has faced severe criticism for the same. Moreover, his contract with the Red Devils expires after this season and it is very unlikely that he will get a contract extension.
On the other hand, Rooney’s dismal form saw him getting dropped from the starting eleven. He returned to the starting lineup in the 3-1 win against Swansea City but looked a pale shadow of his former self.
The effect on the team due to the poor performance from the strikers is very much visible as the Old Trafford outfit is languishing sixth in the table despite spending heavily in the summer.
So far, they have scored only 16 goals in the 11 league games and the Daily Record has claimed that Jose Mourinho is eyeing the Portuguese international to bolster his frontline.
Silva has been coming up through the ranks with Porto since joining in 2011, and after scoring 24 goals in 84 games for their ‘B’ team, the 21-year old has become a regular in the first-team. He has started the season in an emphatic manner by netting nine goals in 14 games and has continued the same form for his country too. He got a call from the national team in August and has made an instant impact by scoring four goals.
His prowess in front of the goal has made him one of the most sought after youngsters across Europe and the Red Devils are desperate to secure his signings. However, they are all set to face a stiff challenge in their chase for the striker as the Porto marksman is also on the radar of Barcelona, Real Madrid and Manchester City .
