Manchester United eyes to sign Sporting Lisbon defender
According to the latest reports, Manchester United are interested in Portugal’s full-back Ricardo Esgaio. The young defender plays for Sporting Lisbon and is rated highly by Manchester United with the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona are also interested in his services.
With Danilo expected to sign for Real Madrid this summer despite all the speculations, the Red Devils are looking for a possible long-term solution for right back position which has been a subject of concern for the Red Devils this season.
Antonio Valencia has been disastrous this season playing as right-back or as right-wing back, so United are weighing their possible transfer targets in entire Europe. With Danilo very much out of contention to come to Premier League, United are expected to go all-out for Esgaio.
The 21-year old have already played for Portugal’s U-16,U-21 sides earlier. The young defender has the ability to play in more attacking positions despite being a natural right-back. Louis van Gaal also likes players who can be versatile and play different positions, so the player got the nod from the Red Devils’ boss.
The player’s parent club Sporting Lisbon is the club from which Manchester United have earlier brought the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Nani to Old Trafford.
