According to the latest reports, Manchester United have failed to sign Stefan de Vrij as Lazio has turned down the €25m offer made by Manchester United.
The centre back was signed by Lazio from Feyenoord last summer for a reported €8.5m after some terrific performances for Netherlands national team in 2014 world cup.
The player have cemented his position in the national side under Louis van Gaal. The defender was continuously backed by Louis van Gaal during his time as Oranje coach.
The 23-year old have been under van Gaal radar since he took charge of Manchester United as he is highly impressed with the defender’s physical game as it plays an important role while playing in Premier League.
However, Lazio offered a bigger sum than Manchester United to sign the young defender. However, van Gaal wants the defender at Old Trafford next season but Lazio rejected their offer which is around £18.9m.
The defender played a crucial role in Lazio’s success this season as they are currently second in Serie A and are expecting Champions League spot next season which will boost their finances further to hold on to the defender.
It will be interesting to see whether Louis van Gaal and Manchester United will return with a counter offer.
